Muddy Marines

By Marshal Barbarossa

Hello once again... Here's a tutorial on how to get muddy marines.

Just like my last tutorial, pics first then notes on pics...
Also, to avoid any problems, read the tutorial atleast once before trying it out...
So we start....

First stage

1. We start with a fully painted marine after decals but before varnishing...

2. Apply some PVA glue to the base

3. Spread the Pva glue all over the base

4. Let the glue dry but not completely...

Second stage

5. Once its outer layer is dry, you can shape it with a sclupting tool of some sort... Let dry completely..

6. Once dry, add another layer and let dry a bit...

7. shape once more when it is dry outside but not yet fully cured...

8. keep on adding layers until you are satisfied with the result...

*you can opt to make the mud before you paint the model
*you can also actually do this with GS but it would cost more...

Third stage

9. Stipple(kinda like dry brushing but you poke instead of brush) snakebite leather in places where you want mud to appear... This is supposed to simulate dry mud or soil...

10. Just showing the back after snakebite stippling

11. Next stipple bestial brown in the same way as in 9 but do this in places under the snake bite.. This is like half dried mud so it is usually in places nearer to the mud source..

12. Just showing the back after bestial stippling

*DONT USE YOUR PRIZED PAINT BRUSH! use an older one as stippling will damage the tip of the brush...

Fourth stage

13. paint the base scorched brown and stipple this on the lower legs or feet... This is supposed to be fresh mud... Thick paint is ok as its supposed to be mud... Thin paint is also ok.. Doesn't matter really..
14. Just showing the back of the legs after 13..
!5. drybrush some bestial brown on the base...
16. drybrush snakebite leather

Finished!

17. Now you can spray the model with matte varnish..
18. Paint pure Future Floor Finish onto the mud on the base... You could also hit some mud on the marine itself but I chose not to... I did hit some feet though...
19. Add a few drops of superglue and dip in static grass(I used woodland scenics harvest gold)

And there you have it.... Well it probably won't get you any golden daemons, but I think tabletop marines look great with mud!

Good luck!
